Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chusak Limsakul, President of Prince of Songkla University, and his team, comprised of Dean of Management Sciences, the Dean of Graduate Studies and the Director of the Research and Development Office, represented PSU on the 6th AUN Rectors’ Meeting and the 30th AUN Board of Trustees Meeting, on 18-20 June 2014, in Cebu, the Philippines. The events, attended by representatives of the 26 AUN member universities, were co-hosted by De La Salle University, Ateneo de Manila University and University of the Philippines.
6th AUN Rectors’ Meeting
The 6th AUN Rectors’ Meeting, on June 18, was organized under the theme “Driving Towards a Promising ASEAN Society with University Quality Management”, and it focused intensively on three of AUN’s flagship projects, namely:
- From AUN Quality Assessment at Programme Level to Institutional Assessment;
- ASEAN Credit Transfer System;
- ASEAN Student Learners Forum.
An initiative of the new AUN Thematic Network on Health Promotion was also discussed, resulting in the agreement to support Mahidol University as the host of the AUN-HPN secretariat.
30th AUN Board of Trustees Meeting
The 30th AUN Board of Trustees Meeting, on June 19-20, started by welcoming its four new members, including Prince of Songkla Univeristy, and its President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chusak Limsakul. Another item on the agenda was the noting of the recent AUN Annual Report (July 2013-May2014) on the implementation of AUN activities from that time period. The meeting also appreciated the progress on the AUN Student Exchange Programme, noting the 262 scholarships awarded among participating AUN universities, and asking member institutions to further promote student participation in the programme.
2nd ASEAN+3 Rectors’ Conference
The 2nd ASEAN+3 Rectors’ Conference was also announced during the event, noting that it will be hosted by Chiang Mai University, on 6-7 November 2014. Furthermore, the date and venue of the 7th AUN Rector’s Meeting and the 31st AUN Board of Trustees Meeting were also announced, expressing appreciation to the National University of Singapore for accepting to host both events, to be held tentatively on 27-31 July 2015 in Singapore.
Conclusion
Concluding the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Piniti Ratananukul, Deputy Secretary-General, the Office of Higher Education Commission-Thailand, and the Chairperson of the AUN Board of Trustees, expressed his appreciation for AUN activities successfully preparing the future generations to overcome the challenges of an increasingly globalised world.
