Ten PSU delegates led by His Excellency Mr. Chuan Leekpai, Former Prime Minister of Thailand and Honorable Adviser to PSU Council; Prof. Dr. Charas Suwanweala, PSU Chairman; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chusak Limsakul, PSU President, visited the University of Western Australia and Flinders University in Australia from July 27 – August 3, 2014.
The main objective of their visit was related to the university’s project of establishing in the near future a Rural Clinical Center in Trang Province, in order to produce good quality doctors to serve people in rural areas of southern Thailand. Therefore, the PSU administrative team learned about and discussed details in management strategies for Rural Clinical School’s development with experts in this field. Moreover, they also visited several rural clinical schools in rural areas of Western and South Australia.
Another objective of their visit was to strengthen and develop new cooperation with Australian universities. Consequently, the trip was a good opportunity for PSU representatives to renew the Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Western Australia and establish a new collaboration with Flinders University. The possible future collaborative activities discussed were staff and student exchange programs, joint research and seminars, joint programs and internships.
Our distinguished hosts cordially welcomed the PSU delegates and shared useful information and experiences. This visit was a great opportunity for PSU team to gain valuable knowledge about rural clinical schools, in order to assist PSU setting up its Rural Clinical Center in Trang province. Furthermore, the trip was an important occasion to reaffirm and strengthen the friendship between PSU and Australian universities.
