Group Discussions

Participants chose one of three forums to attend: the Presidents Forum, the Deans Forum and the Students forum.

Presidents Forum

Tasked with discussing the topic “Improving Networking Between Indonesian and Thai Education Systems”, participants of the Presidents Forum came up with the idea of four working groups focusing on the following areas:

  1. Academic Standards
  2. Research and Innovation
  3. Student Forum
  4. Government and Finance
Working groups #1 and #4 will be chaired by a Thai university, while working groups #2 and #3 will be chaired by an Indonesian university. Chairs will be appointed by the CRISU-CUPT Board, and participants can apply for membership afterwards. Another solution reached by Presidents Forum members was the establishment of the “IT Project” (Indonesia-Thailand Project), with the aim to increase networking between the two countries. Finally, inviting Malaysia to the conference was raised as a future possibility.

Deans Forum

Conversation centered on “Quality Assurance and Credit Transfer”. Regarding the former, it was pointed out that increasing budget will result in increased effectiveness of quality assurance, and that setting a qualification framework will help align Thai and Indonesian standards. On the other hand, to establish a working credit transfer system, it was deemed necessary to have proficiency in the host’s native language, and to have detailed and unified course guidelines, as well as increased flexibility regarding subjects, course description, credits earned and completion time. Financial support, academic transfer and visa issues were also explored.

Students Forum

Participants explored the issue “Supporting Students to Become Innovative and Global Citizens”, and found that proficiency in the host’s native language, a respectful attitude and an increase in general ASEAN awareness would greatly facilitate the internationalization of the student body. The quality of the teaching staff and the number of available scholarships were also named as important factors.
